Ten Tips to Cutting Wedding Costs without Compromising Style

Having an inexpensive wedding doesn't mean it has to look cheap or tacky. Here are several great tips for having a gorgeous wedding while saving money doing it.

Inexpensive Favors

You can keep the cost of the wedding down by having your favors double as table decorations at your reception. Small flower arrangements make great favors and you can often purchase small glass containers at a thrift shop for as little as $0.25. Another option is to purchase some Divinity fudge wedding favors, which come wrapped in white tulle and are tied with a white ribbon. Personalize it by adding a tag with a special message, such as "Love is divine."

Seashells made into candles are another nice touch, particularly for a beach wedding. You can make these by melting some beeswax, pouring it into the shell, and adding a wick. If you can't gather the shells by yourself, you can purchase them by the bag at most craft stores. Or, you can use regular candles and wrap them in tulle and tie them with a ribbon.

Inexpensive Wedding Dresses

You can certainly save a great deal of money on a wedding dress by making your own. But, not everyone is skilled at the task of sewing. Another option would be to visit the mall and look through evening dresses and prom dresses rather than going to a bridal boutique. More than likely, you will be able to find a dress that suits your style and taste. You can also purchase a gown from eBay.com, where you can find new, used, and vintage wedding dresses for sale. Or, you could wear a relative's dress. Another option is to rent your wedding dress, an option many brides don't even realize is available.

Inexpensive Wedding Cakes

Traditionally, wedding cakes are round and tiered and not very flavorful. Today, it is ok to have wedding cakes of different shapes and styles, such as hearts, triangles or squares. You can even choose from a variety of flavors. To save some money, try making your cake yourself. If you are worried about making a cake that is presentable, make cupcakes instead. These are much easier to hand out to wedding guests and they can be made to be quite attractive by simply placing them in round tiers like a cake. Adorn it with fresh flowers, ribbon, or fruit and it will certainly have a look of class.

Inexpensive Flowers

Wholesale flower distributors are a great option for the bride on a budget. Or, you can use flowers from your own garden, from friend's gardens, from street vendors, or even grocery stores. In addition, you can even find great flower bargains online. Be sure to get flowers that can hold up since you will need time to arrange them ahead of time. Then, get a couple friends or family members to help you make arrangements. If you are worried about using fresh flowers, there is nothing wrong with purchasing silk or with doing a combination of fresh and silk.

Inexpensive Photography

Placing disposable cameras on the tables at your wedding reception will encourage your guests to take pictures and forever capture fond wedding day memories. In addition, your guests cover a greater area than just one photographer. You might also want to ask a friend or family member who enjoys photography to take the "official" wedding photos of your big day. Or, photography students in your area may be a good option.

Inexpensive Wedding Invitations

Traditionally, it was considered proper to mail the invitation in two envelopes. This is no longer necessary and it is ok to skip this formality, which can save in costs. You can also use a postcard to RSVP, which will save in postage expenses. You can even make your own wedding invitations. But, if this is not an option for you, check out the Internet and look for wholesale or discount invitation suppliers.

Inexpensive Wedding Rings

When it comes to buying wedding rings, plain gold bands are the cheapest and have a classic and elegant appearance, but stay away from designer bands. Or, go with silver bands for a modern and inexpensive alternative. If you are looking for white metal, go with white gold rather than platinum, which can be twice the price. In addition, buying a coordinated set or a trio, which includes both wedding rings and an engagement ring, can cut your costs in half.

Inexpensive Entertainment

Music at your wedding reception is an important element. DJs are the best option and can bring the greatest variety of music to your reception. Look for a DJ that will also emcee the event. You can save even more money on music with themed weddings. For example, a beach wedding may warrant simply having one artist with a guitar.

Inexpensive Centerpieces

Large bouquets of Baby's Breath are attractive and inexpensive. To top it off, include a few roses in the bouquet at the head table. Fruit can also serve as a great centerpiece. Find unblemished fruit and place it in a glass bowl or on a stand in the middle of the table. Candles also make for a nice centerpiece, including floating candles. You can even take jars and decorate them with tulle, add water and a few floating flower petals for a beautiful and inexpensive centerpiece.

Inexpensive Location

If you want something other than a church wedding, you might be having a difficult time finding a beautiful location that isn't expensive. If you have a friend who is a gardener, see about having the wedding at his or her house. Or, check out your local parks or beaches, most of which can be used for free.
