Your wedding day is quickly approaching and your beautiful outdoor wedding is about ready to commence. The weather prediction is not even out yet and you are too busy dreaming about the perfect ceremony. Stop! You need a back-up plan. Mother Nature may not be as accommodating as you might want her to be. Sometimes she has her own plans and they can come up very quick out of nowhere. Make sure that you have thought about what you will do if the weather decides to not cooperate. Have a plan to get you and all of your guests undercover or to another location quickly. This will depend on the location of the wedding and where you have chosen to have your reception. Plan ahead carefully. An outdoor wedding is beautiful. There is nothing nicer than to be surrounded by nature, family and friends at the same time on such a special day. But if Mother Nature decides to play a trick, be prepared.
If you are having this event in a place that offers both indoor and outdoor services, make sure you can move the party inside if need be. Campgrounds, hotels, and home weddings can usually be catered if needed. Most campsites have recreation rooms to hold receptions and will be more than happy to let you use that space, since you will probably already have it rented for your reception. Hotels are the same way, except if you have to move to the indoors, you might want to reserve it or be prepared to pay extra if you have to. Ask the specific cost for spare of the moment verses in advance reservation. If it is cheaper to reserve and you lose the reservation deposit because you didn't need it, still reserve the room. The slightly added cost will bring you peace of mind.
If you are planning a home wedding, you have two options for saving you and your guests. If the yard is big enough, then you can put up some white tarps or canopies with poles and decorate to make look beautiful. This will keep not only the rain off your guests but the hot sun, too. You can also move the show indoors if need be.
| Bit of History |
It is told that some divorcees, elated by their freedom, pause on leaving the courthouse to kiss a front pillar, or even walk to the Truckee to hurl their wedding rings into the river; but boys who recover the rings declare they are of the dime-store variety, and accuse the throwers of fraudulent practices.

If you are planning that full outdoor experience by getting married on a beach, in a park, or in the woods next to a lake somewhere, then you have two options. You can either make sure that you are having an indoor reception and get everyone and everything to the reception hall to finish the ceremony. Or, you can invest in the rental of a wedding tent. These are not only gorgeous but very large, as well. Your guests will be able to see through the mesh walls but still be protected from the rain. Because they are completely enclosed, they offer the added bonus of a bug free wedding. If your venue is on a beach or in a park the wedding tent may not be permitted. Most other out door venues will be more accommodating. Make sure that the spot you have chosen is large enough to put the tent in the first place. This will also be where your reception will be. You will want this type of shelter in the wilderness from the elements considering you rented a generator and have either a D.J. or live band with lots of electric equipment there.
So if you are planning to have your wedding outdoors make plans for that unexpected weather emergency. You and your guests do not want to be caught in the rain if they need not be. Make sure you put in the invitations that the wedding will be outdoors and include what will happen in the case of rain. This will let folks know that you have thought this through and know what to do in case the Mother Nature cries on you. All these tips are not only good for rain, but also for extremely hot weather, as well. It will be vital for people to have shade from extreme heat and pounding sunrays. So, make sure that back up is there in case you really need it, you will be happy you did.
