Making the most of your kids Christmas vacation might sound like an impossible task with all of your other holiday chores. Making the right activity choices might keep you on schedule and keep your kids Christmas vacation full of holiday spirit. Making the most of your kids Christmas vacation can also mean making it a season full of giving.
The first activity you may want to get out of the way is the traditional cookie baking. There are many fun and easy recipes that can yield quite a few little delectable treats. If you have baked three to four different looking treats you can fill up a small paper dessert plate. You are making the most of your kids Christmas vacation this year and this means they are going to help not only with the baking and decorating, but let them wrap the dessert plates too. Use some decorative plastic wrap or cellophane and some holiday ribbon or bows. Make enough plates so each child can take at least one tasty treat to a neighbor or special friend.
If the weather is bad, making cookies is not the only project you can do inside. This year have the kids help you make your greeting cards a little more memorable. After this project, you be making the most of your kids Christmas vacation for them and you. You need to find some of your old photograph's of family members. Look in the boxes that have the pictures you never put in your albums. Have the kids help you. They might put up a struggle at first, but after they start looking at pictures of themselves they will not be able to stop. Tell them the game is to find one picture of everyone in the family; Grandpa, Aunt Mary, etc. As they hunt, be sure to have piles designated for them to sort the pictures they find. When they have finished you will have all your old photos organized, a neat memorabilia photo for this years Christmas card, and the kids had a ball going down memory lane.

In many ways, life becomes simpler [for young adults]. . . . We are expected to solve only a finite number of problems within a limited range of possible solutions. . . . Its a mental vacation compared with figuring out who we are, what we believe, what were going to do with our talents, how were going to solve the social problems of the globe . . .and what the perfect way to raise our children will be.

After all this hard work it might be time to take them out of the house. One thing that is nearly impossible to do with your kids is Christmas shopping. This is especially difficult when you are in the toy section and all of your children are whining for what they want when you are wishing they were getting in the spirit of Christmas. Making the most of your kids Christmas vacation is all about making them get the spirit of Christmas. Many stores or school districts have an Adopt-a-Family Christmas gift giving campaign. This is a wonderful way to teach your children about giving, budgeting money, and people who are in need. You receive the ages of the children in the family. You can assign each child their own child to give to, and shop for. When you get to the store give them the money they have to spend along with the wish list from the child. Your child will see how hard it is when you really want to buy something for someone, but you do not have the money. Your child will also make choices about what is really a good purchase. Watching their faces when they finally make their choice is priceless. It is a much different experience leaving the toy store on that day.
The experience that your kid's will remember forever is one of hands-on giving. Find the nearest homeless shelter or food kitchen near you and ask what they do for holiday dinners. You will find that there are many volunteer opportunities for the entire family. The true meaning of Christmas can be found when you and your family go to the local food kitchen to pass out Christmas dinners to those less fortunate. Many of the people that come to eat are families. Tell the shelter you want to help and they will find a way that works for you. If making the most of your kids Christmas vacation means a meaningful valuable experience they will hold on to forever, feeding the homeless at Christmas time is an outing of a lifetime.
