Egypt must be one of the most fascinating places in the world and tourism has become very important in its development. The country contains some unique sites and there are archeological wonders that resemble pictures from fantasy stories. It is mostly desert with an area of fertile land around the River Nile. Most people travel to Egypt to see the world famous pyramids.
The climate is naturally very hot and it's important to drink plenty of water and apply sun block. The months between November and January are recommended for visitors. Several international airports operate, including at Cairo, Luxor and Aswan. It's inexpensive to rent a vehicle but drivers have to be at least 25 years of age. Taxis are another cheap way of getting around urban areas. There is top class accommodation waiting after travel to Egypt and local people are very welcoming. Alcohol is officially forbidden, because of the rules of the Islamic religion but it is freely available, especially in tourist areas.
The tourist industry and trade with the West has resulted in a lot of western influence and tourists will see many familiar fast food outlets and designer clothes stores. However, it is still possible to get local flavor and eat and shop as the locals do. The cuisine is very tasty and it's fun to browse round the markets, looking for a bargain. Travel to Egypt can result in bringing home a top quality rug, antiques or leather goods. Spices are also a good buy, being cheaper and better quality than in the west.

To get away from ones working environment is, in a sense, to get away from ones self; and this is often the chief advantage of travel and change.

There are so many wondrous things to see in Egypt and most people want to return. The capital city of Cairo has interesting architecture in its downtown and an historic Islamic district containing beautiful mosques. The city is the gateway to the Giza Pyramids, the only surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. More ancient history is on view at Luxor where the Valley of the Kings receives many tourists each year. These tombs are the royal burial places of the Pharaohs, including that of the famous boy Prince, Tutankhamun.
So much history and remarkable archeological finds are packed into this one country. Travel to Egypt also involves the chance to see the famous Abu Simbel temples and statues, constructed in honor of the Pharaoh Ramesses II. For people interested in Roman remains, Alexandria is the place to visit. There are Roman catacombs, a Roman Amphitheatre and a Greco-Roman Museum.
It's not all history in Egypt however. The Red Sea coast is the favorite destination of divers and snorkellers. There are beach resorts with modern amenities and the surrounding waters are clear and abundant with exotic marine life and coral.
