Many young adults who graduate high school make the leap into secondary education immediately. The only time they have off after graduating the twelfth grade is the summer months. By the time they’ve spent four or eight years working towards a college degree they are likely ready for a break. Many people look to gap year travel as a way to explore the world before jumping into the 9 to 5 routine of a full-time job.

One thing that most college kids don’t have a lot of is money. The majority of young adults studying for a degree have taken out student loans. This doesn’t leave them with a lot to work with when it comes to planning their gap year travel itinerary. However there are many ways to see the world without breaking the bank. One great idea is to utilize their student discount before graduation.

There are several well-known travel websites that offer deals on trips to every corner of the globe. Most of them have special rates for certain circumstances. For a soon-to-be graduating student who is planning a gap year travel trip, there are many student discounts they can use that will save them a considerable amount of money. These are offered on all types of travel essentials including airfare, hotels and car rentals. Looking into these types of deals before graduation is essential when you are planning your gap year travel adventure.

 Quote of the Day
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
—Robert Frost (1874–1963)

Who hasn’t heard of a group of young adults backpacking around Europe? This is arguably one of the most desirable gap year travel ideas. The adventure that awaits someone who has only the clothes on their back and limited funds may seem daunting to many, but for young college grads it’s a chance of a lifetime. This type of gap year travel trip involves staying primarily in hostels and low-rent hotels. If the participants love the outdoors they can even bring along a tent and do some camping.

For those who are really pinching their pennies they can still venture out into the world of travel. Volunteering is a great way to fund your gap year travel. Many companies are looking for young and enthusiastic volunteers in all parts of the world to work on environmental programs or child initiatives. The idea behind utilizing one of these opportunities for gap year travel is that you spend your days volunteering and your nights exploring the local culture. Many companies will pay travel and living expenses for college students willing to volunteer for a few weeks or a couple of months. If you do this you not only have the opportunity to see a new locale but you’ll be doing good work as well.
