I didn't realize how little I knew about my family history until we got an assignment to look at it in school. I was in fifth grade at the time, and we were supposed to trace our family genealogy. We were assigned to draw a family tree and give a brief description of each member of our family for the last couple of generations. I thought it would be no sweat off, but to my surprise when I sat down to do it, nothing came to mind.

I asked my parents for some help on the family geneology. The funny thing was that they didn't know enough about their relatives either. Although our immediate family was well known, some relatives outside of it were not. We couldn't give much information about our cousins, aunts and uncles, or our great uncle. We knew everyone's names of course, but many of the salient details were missing. I knew then and there that it was time to put some serious effort into finding out about family genealogy.

 Bit of History
Like plowing, housework makes the ground ready for the germination of family life. The kids will not invite a teacher home if beer cans litter the living room. The family isn’t likely to have breakfast together if somebody didn’t remember to buy eggs, milk, or muffins. Housework maintains an orderly setting in which family life can flourish.

At first, I didn't expect the family genealogy history to be all that interesting. You see, it seemed rather dry to me. Nonetheless, once I started looking into my family tree, I discovered how fascinating it could be. Our family genealogy was incredible. We came from all over the world, hailing from at least seven different countries. Nonetheless, the family search genealogy was slow and frustrating. There were so many gaps in our knowledge that we couldn't fill out that, even though I had finished the project and gotten a good grade on it, I decided to continue with it. I wanted to know more about my genealogy family.

What really amazed me was how many family genealogy resources are available on the Internet. At the time, I was not that familiar with the World Wide Web, although I have since grown comfortable with it. There were literally tens of thousands of family genealogy sites, and although many of them proved fruitless, a few yielded some intriguing clues. Apparently, family genealogy is a very important to some people. There were even family genealogy sites that would allow you to do a DNA test to determine where your family came from. Although we never went this far, we were able to look up a couple of relatives who we had lost track of thanks to the Internet. All in all, that family genealogies project was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my young life.

Nothing ruins a fabulous vacation faster than an unanticipated medical emergency - except, that is, experiencing such an emergency and knowing you are unprepared to handle it.
